Candidates are rapidly filing for the March 2012 Texas Primary Elections before the Dec. 15 deadline. Among them, Republican Terri Green is throwing her hat in the race for the Collin County 380th Judicial District Court.

Green, who filed for the seat on Nov. 30, said she sought the seat because it was going to be "an open bench."

"I'm going to run the court room the way I see and they way I think it should be run that is fair to all litigants," Green said. I'm going to run it they way I see fit, I'm going to handle the cases and the dockets in the most efficient and judicial way necessary to make sure that everyone is treated with respect, fairness and that every litigant has their day in court."

Green, who has been practicing law in Frisco since 2002 said she is the first Frisco attorney to run for the statewide judicial court. She will also be running against Republican candidate Ben Smith, who filed for the 380th District Court on Wednesday.

Green served in various clubs in Frisco and Collin County including the Rotary Club of Frisco, who she was named Rotarian of the year for 2011; and as a board member for Child Protective Services.

According to a written statement released by Green, she also has "22 years legal experience in family law; civil trials and litigation; probate litigation; wills, trust and estate planning; criminal defense counsel (misdemeanors); and teen court judge."

After serving as the president of the Republican Women of North Collin County, a group, she said has grown to "over 55 members -- north of Plano," she stepped down from the position Tuesday during the organization's monthly meeting.

"A district judge, to my understanding, is not able to be a fundraiser," Green said. "You cannot be in any position where you would raise money except for in your own campaign, so anything of which I am associated with -- I can still be a member of the Republican Women's club, but I can't fundraise for them."

She added the guidelines and ethical rules for district judges are very stern.

One of the attributes Green said she thinks she can bring to the position is her "extensive qualifications."

"Research has found that out of that 380th Court, only assigned 55 percent family law cases, 35 percent civil cases and 10 percent felony cases," Green said. "I have handled, looking at my records here in Collin County, over 75 family law cases, and 45 civil matters, which include personal injury ... that does not include my trial work in Denton, Dallas, or the federal courts where I handled a jury trial or my appeals to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ... so these numbers would be extremely higher on the civil cases."

The 2012 Primary Elections will be important for Republicans, Green said because Democrats are expected to contend with the Republican Party.

"We're going to have quite a few Democrats, which we have not had in the past that are going to step-up and run against Republicans, so all the Republican clubs are working together to make sure that we keep Collin County red -- Republican red," Green said.

Green said the public's response to her campaign has been "overwhelming, enthusiastic, [and] very supportive."

"The public understands the importance of having a qualified, experienced judge in the 380th Court, and having worked side by side with most of these individuals, they are familiar with my experience and my qualifications, my trail experience, work ethic and my dedication to get a job done and to do it right," Green said. "Most important, they know I will not rule from the bench and create law, that I will strictly follow the law."

Green said her campaign party is has helped produce T-shirts, a walk list and a 'Pastries and Politics' fundraiser, which will be held at Bonnie Ruth's on Jan. 8 from 2-4 p.m.

" "Strictly follow the law" and run a courtroom that is "fair to all litigants" and where "all litigants have their day in court"? Really? When?
