McKinney Boyd had the Midas touch working at the District 8-5A Meet: touch the water and it won gold.
The Broncos finished first in 22 of 23 events to dominate the field Thursday and Friday within the friendly confines of the McKinney ISD Natatorium.
Boyd set the pace in both boys and girls competition to qualify 36 swimmers and divers for regionals.
In all, Boyd took 39 of 54 possible medals in individual events.
Boyd had three swimmers earn top honors at the meet, as junior Colby Doyle was named District Diver of the Meet and senior Kristine Nagy and sophomore Homero Cantu were named District Swimmers of the Meet.
Doyle set a school record by winning gold in the 1-meter dive with a score of 324.20. He finished more than 100 points ahead of teammate Austin Teague, who took second with a score of 223.15. Nagy swam a leg of the Lady Broncos’ winning 200-yard medley relay (1:59.63) and 200 freestyle relay (1:50.78) to go along with her individual gold-medal runs in the 50 free (26.65) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.87).
Cantu also mixed it up with wins in the 200 free (1:52.41) and 500 free (4:57.28) and by swimming on the Broncos' first-place 400 free relay team (3:33.85).
Additional Boyd swimmers who turned in a bevy of first-place finishes included Sara Ropson (200 free, 500 free, 400 free relay); Anna Carruth (100 free, 100 backstroke, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay); Jonathan Slight (100 free, 200 individual medley, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay) and Chase Girard (50 free, 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay).
The only event Boyd didn't take first place in was the boys 100 butterfly, which was won by Garland’s Alec Bouston (58.11). But the Broncos did take second and third on respective swims by Alec Simpson (1:00.83) and Ryan Clark (1:01.31).
Boyd won gold in every girls event.
After their strong showing at district, the Broncos 36-strong contingency of regional qualifiers will head to the Region II Meet, which is set to begin Feb. 9 at the Loos Swimming Complex in Addison.
