Surrounding cities, LEISD cancel elections

Filing for the May 2012 General Elections ended last week for area communities. Little Elm will be the only one holding their election in May.
Oak Point, Lakewood Village and the Little Elm ISD will be cancelling their elections because only the incumbents had filed for reelection and were unopposed when filing ended. According to a release, Oak Point will soon take action to cancel their election.
In Oak Point, incumbents Keith Palmer, Lynn Harpold and Colleen Cameron will keep their seats on the City Council. Both Palmer and Harpold will begin their second term on the council and Cameron will start her third in May.
Town Secretary Linda Asbell said the town will be declaring winners and cancelling the election soon.
Two seats, Place 5 and 4, were available on the LEISD Board of Trustees, but only incumbents Stephanie Gregg and William Hidell filed for reelection. The school board election will be cancelled as well.
In Little Elm, the opposite holds true for this election race. Little Elm will be holding its election in May for four spots on the Town Council, and each spot has plenty of candidates who've filed.
For the position of mayor, incumbent Charles Platt has filed for reelection. Candidates who've filed to run against him include John Gowling and David Hillock. The mayor position is considered an "At Large Position," in which the candidates may reside in any area of Little Elm and shall be elected by the qualified voters of the entire town.
For the position of District 3, incumbent Curtis Cornelius has filed to be reelected. Opposing him will be Jason Olson and Dickie J. Mills.
In District 4, which is for the remainder of an unexpired three-year term, candidates Jim Manning, Bob Burkey and Charles "Chip" Norman have filed for the vacancy. In District 5, the following candidates have filed to run: Dan Jaworski, David Taylor, Lloyd "Renn" Leech IV, Katie Gipson, Deleon English and LeAnna Harding.
The General Election will be held Saturday, May 12.
