Parker announces support for Perry’s budget compact

Published: Monday, April 23, 2012 12:24 PM CDT
On Thursday, Texas Representative Tan Parker offered his endorsement for Governor Perry's budget plan for Texas, calling it the blueprint for a sound fiscal future.

The governor's compact includes several components that Parker has long supported, such as opposing all tax increases, increasing efficiency in delivering state services, making the $1 million exemption to the business franchise tax permanent, preserving the state's Rainy Day Fund and proposing strict limits on any attempts to increase spending.

"Governor Perry has been a tireless advocate for sound state spending plans that do not burden our economy with budgets we can't afford," Parker stated. "Without the governor's fiscal leadership, Texas would not be leading our nation's rebound from this global economic recession. I am proud to support this direction for Texas' fiscal future."

Parker noted that Texas' fiscal restraint has yielded unsurpassed economic growth, citing the Wall Street Journal as crediting the state’s low taxes and employer-friendly environment with helping make Texas the job creation capital of the nation. Recently, Parker supported the state budget signed into law by Perry that cut over $15 billion in overall spending without raising taxes and still increased the state's contribution to funding Texas' public education system by over $3 billion.

Parker has now been a part of back to back state budgets that have decreased state spending levels while also personally authoring numerous laws that have streamlined state and local government, making both more efficient with taxpayer dollars.

In closing, Parker added, "Every day countless hardworking families in Texas have to set priorities and make the budgeting decisions that are necessary in order to not exceed their household income. All they ask is that government do the same with their tax dollars. Texas has set the model for that principle and I am excited to support the Governor's plan for Texas to take the next step and remain our nation's leader in fiscal responsibility."

Initially elected on Nov. 7 of 2006, Parker represents both rural and urban parts of Denton County which encompasses the cities of Flower Mound, Highland Village, Pilot Point, Argyle, Aubrey, Dish, Krugerville, Sanger, Cross Roads, Krum, Ponder, Justin, Lantana, Northlake, Copper Canyon, Double Oak, Bartonville, Trophy Club, Roanoke and portions of Lewisville, Fort Worth and Southlake.

Serving in his third term in the Texas Legislature, Representative Parker is focusing his efforts on economic development, job creation, strengthening border security and immigration policy, promoting fiscally responsible government spending and protecting family values. Parker is the current Vice Chairman of the Rules and Resolutions Committee. He also serves on the Corrections and Urban Affairs Committees.
