Members from all three campuses of Prestonwood Baptist Church donated more than 700 Easter baskets filled with candy, toys, stuffed animals and Bibles for families whose homes were destroyed by tornados in Lancaster on April 3.
Ministers and church members delivered the baskets on Friday, April 6, to the Lancaster Recreation Center and had an opportunity to talk to local residents who survived the tornado and storms that ripped through the Dallas suburb.
"We got the word out on Facebook and Twitter immediately after the tornados hit and by Wednesday we had donations coming to each of our campuses, in Plano, Dallas and the Prosper/Celina area," said Sondra Saunders, senior preschool and children's minister for Prestonwood. "We collected enough for about 900 Easter baskets, as well as two big truckloads of clothing, toiletries and other essentials. When people are asked to help at Prestonwood ... everybody wants to pitch in and do something."
"Seeing the devastation, we thought this would be a great way to help people. School will always be there," Tung said.
Prestonwood is also collecting an offering to help families affected. For information visit www.prestonwood.org.
"I am so grateful for a church family that represents Christ in these times of crisis," Prestonwood Pastor Jack Graham said. "We want to be able to help those who are hurting, not just physically, but spiritually. And to provide a child an Easter basket that he might otherwise not receive this year is a joy for us."
