The city's lone contested council race proved to be a close one as unofficial results dubbed Doug Hrbacek, who took 61 percent of the votes, victorious. Terry Wright finished with 39 percent of the votes, according to unofficial results.
Hrbacek said he was proud of his campaigning efforts and the results showed he was able to get his message out.
"The voters responded," he said. "Today is not about me, it is about the city of Carrollton. I have had almost 19 years of service to the city and I am ready to get to work. I believe it is time for Carrollton."
Several redevelopment initiatives have been put into place by the city and Hrbacek hopes to continue those efforts.
"I am ready to dive into it and move forward," he said. "I will continue to work to add passenger rail and work through the details of the I-35 construction. I think those are the critical infrastructure pieces that will lead to redevelopment."
Hrbacek and Wright were divided by 631 of the 2,903 votes.
"I had good support," Wright said. "A lot of friends turned out, I didn't take funds from anyone else and or anything like that. Doug really worked hard on his part and it shows. He really campaigned hard and went to get the city side of the votes and it reflected in the overall vote. I think he will do a good job. He is from Carrollton and I hope he will push into it and get some good things done for our city."
Wright said in every election there are things candidates reflect on and wonder if they could have done them differently. But, he said, the only thing he would have changed was his timing.
"I wish I could have started my campaign earlier," he said. "I do want to thank everyone for their support and remind them that we hold our city officials accountable. This election had a very decent turnout and we are seeing people get a little more active in voting. That's really what I was hoping for."
