Frisco Centennial threw everything it had at Rockwall-Heath, but it couldn't stop the Hawks from advancing to the regional semifinals for the fourth consecutive year.
Heath completed its sweep of the teams' best-of-3 playoff series on Friday with a 16-3 bludgeoning of the Titans in Game 2.
Centennial threw five pitchers in the series-deciding game, each of whom struggled to retire a blazing hot Heath lineup that racked up 16 hits – batting around in both the third and seventh innings – and scored eight runs in the seventh. The Hawks capitalized on a lack of command from the Titans pitching core, which combined for more than 10 walks, and never trailed.
Heath also won Game 1 by a sizable margin, 7-2.
Friday's loss ended an otherwise successful year for Centennial (25-9), which finished second in District 9-4A before advancing to the regional quarterfinals by sweeping Rockwall in a bi-district series and Hillcrest in the area round.
“I'm proud of our team,” said Jason Wilson, Centennial head coach. “We had a great season, but to lose – I can't think of a better team [than Heath]. That's one of the best teams I've seen.”
