Texas Drum & Bugle Corps to Perform 2nd Annual Father's Day Concert at Southlake Town Square

Showcase in the Square II features the Crossmen World Class Drum Corps

Published: Tuesday, May 22, 2012 12:13 AM CDT
Known for their precision, perfection and riveting performance, the Crossmen World Class Drum and Bugle Corps will kick-off its U.S. summer tour with a Father's Day concert in Southlake Town Square. Presented by Toll Brothers, the 2nd Annual "Showcase in the Square" will take place June 17, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Rustin Park Pavilion. Admission is free (donations welcome) and the public is encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the amazing show of brass, percussion and guard talent.

According to John Schock, co-founder of the event, last year's concert drew approximately 1,200 guests and they are hoping to double attendance this year.

"We are beyond excited to bring the Crossmen back to Southlake to celebrate Father's Day," says Schock, who brought the group to the city after seeing them perform on the steps of the Texas State Capitol. "It is a special opportunity for families to spend quality time together and hear the talents of an incredible group of young men and women.”

The two-hour concert will include performances by drum and bugle corps from throughout Texas that are members of Drum Corps International (DCI), a global nonprofit organization promoting music education and entertainment. Based in San Antonio, the 150-member Crossmen are the only DCI World Class Drum Corps within the Lone Star State. Comprised of individuals ages 15-21 who excel in brass, percussion or color guard, the Crossmen include many performers from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. They spend the summer learning, performing and competing with a production that combines music, theatrics and pageantry. Following their performance in Southlake, the Crossmen will embark on a ten week U.S. tour and end the season at the DCI World Championships in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium.

In addition to the Father's Day concert, spectators will be able to witness the Crossmen's practice regimen at Carroll High School June 17 at 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The school and surrounding three football fields will serve as a housing and practice location for the performers.

"We are aggressively promoting this event to band directors at all local schools in the hopes of getting kids involved in joining the Crossmen. The skills, discipline and relationships they make last a lifetime," says Schock, noting his son, Jordon, has performed with the Crossmen for the past two-and-half years.

Showcase in the Square II is being produced in conjunction with the City of Southlake, Southlake Town Square, APEX Arts League, Inland-Western, and Carroll ISD. Sponsors for this year’s event include Toll Brothers, Park Place Lexus, WordPlay LLC, Pet Love, Southlake Style, Gotta Go Trailways, Hilton Southlake Town Square, Pilot Flying J Travel Centers, Roxann Taylor & Associates, and Kwik Kopy of Paris, Texas.
