North's first DI basketball commit, Alexander Ridley, signs with UCA
By Andrew Snyder, asnyder@starlocalnews.com
McKinney North senior Alexander Ridley became the first boys basketball player in program history to sign with a Division I college straight out of high school when he put his signature on a national letter of intent to the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) on Thursday.
The 6'11 center is also the only player in North history to play on three consecutive playoff teams. In his senior year, he helped the Bulldogs compile a 22-13 district record and finish in fourth place in District 10-4A to advance to the playoffs, where they defeated Carrollton Creekview in the opening round before being eliminated by Woodrow Wilson.
He's been through a lot in four years, and he's found a way to persevere, said Darryll Craft, North head coach. On the basketball floor, he's just matured and matured and matured. This was by far his best year. We were able to accomplish a lot with him on the floor.
[UCA] offered me a really good deal on a scholarship and it's a really beautiful campus, Ridley said.
The coaching staff at UCA plans on redshirting Ridley his freshman year.
Xan is very long and active on both ends of the floor, UCA coach Corliss Williamson told the Log Cabin Democrat. He is still raw, but we are excited about his future development. With hard work in the weight room and dedication to skill development, Zan has an opportunity to develop into a good player in our conference.
