The Celina Independent School District board of trustees officially named Donny O'Dell as the new superintendent for the district at May 14 regular meeting.

O'Dell has served the district as assistant superintendent for many years and for the last year has served as the interim superintendent.

“I am extremely honored and humbled by being chosen to be the superintendent of the Celina ISD,” O'Dell said.

Administering the oath of office to newly-elected school board member Todd Snyder was an agenda item, but Lana Brooks of the human resources department learned from the Denton County elections office that no one could take the oath of office till the votes had been officially tabulated. Snyder will take the oath of office at a specially-called school board meeting on Monday, May 18.

The board voted against the early resignation notice incentive.

The board approved granting an easement to Marilee Water District to move water lines at State Highway 289 and County Road 105

In her technology update District Technology Director Marilyn Chamberlin said that the department recommends that every teacher have an individual web site. She said only 30 percent of CISD teachers have their own website on the CISD system.

“I would like to see teachers keep their websites updated,” board member Pam Peters said. “I would like to see teachers embrace this. This is something we've got right in our hands and we should embrace it.”

The board approved a policy regarding class rank. Secondary Curriculum Director Lizzy Kloiber said that students will be given the quartile they fit into in January and June of their freshman year, rather than being given their exact class ranking. She said that now colleges pay more attention to which quartile a student fits into rather than an exact number of their class ranking.

The board also approved the hiring of audio production teacher Amy Trietch and physics teacher Casey Qualls.
