Firefighters battle three-alarm apartment fire
By Heather M. Goodwin, hgoodwin@starlocalnews.com
The Lewisville Fire Department was called to a three-alarm apartment fire early Monday morning.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., the LFD responded to a fire at Camden Westview Apartments located in the 200 block of west Southwest Parkway. The fire began in one apartment and spread to three others.
"One person was taken to the hospital for an unrelated medical emergency, but there were no injuries as a result of the fire," said LFD Capt. Steve Carter. "Before fire officials arrived, tenants were going door to door to get people out of their apartments. Once we arrived, we took over that."
Carter said because the fire went to three-alarm, other city's departments responded including Flower Mound, Highland Village, The Colony and Lake Cities. Carter said one apartment had total fire damage, three upstairs apartments were affected and first floor apartments had water damage.
"The fire got into the attic, but we were able to get it knocked down," Carter said. "The fire didn't spread to other buildings."
The cause for the fire is still under investigation. Carter said finding the cause for a fire has a lot of depending factors. The initial investigation tries to determine if some kind of arson was the cause. If arson is not the cause, fire investigators continue to track the cause of the fire. Carter during that part of the investigation, the fire department allows the insurance companies to come in with their investigators.
