After searching for more than two days, officials found the body of a man who went missing on Lewisville Lake.
The search for the 36-year-old man began around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night after he fell from a boat near Oakland Park, which is on the north side of the lake near the Interstate 35E Bridge. Crews spent the weekend and Monday searching for the man. His body was found by officials Tuesday morning about 200 yards from where he fell. The man was with six family members when he fell from the boat.
"According to the statements from others on the boat, they hit a big wave, and it threw him from the boat," said Capt. Neal Bieler with the Denton County Game Warden. "After he fell, they circled around and jumped in the water to try and find him. When they didn't immediately locate him, they called 911."
Bieler said there was no strong current at Lewisville Lake on Saturday, but the lake was rough. He said officials do not know if the man could swim, but he was not wearing a life jacket. Bieler said officials are waiting on toxicology reports to determine if alcohol was a factor in the drowning.
Bieler said he believes this is the first drowning on Lewisville Lake this season.
