Coach Bill Elliott has inherited the mantle and the socks of coach Butch Ford.
At a specially-called meeting last Friday the Celina school board unanimously approved the hiring of coach Bill Elliott as athletic director and head coach.
Elliott steps into the position left vacant when coach Butch Ford resigned on May 15.
"We could have searched the entire United States and not found someone as qualified," O'Dell said. "He has been doing the job since coach Ford resigned on May 15."
In his recommendation letter to the board of directors O'Dell stated, "He exemplifies the character and qualities that Celina ISD and the community of Celina strive to obtain in its athletic as well as academic programs."
Elliott has coached and taught social studies for the Celina school district for 17 years.
At the meeting last Friday he was presented with a pair of knee socks, an article of clothing coach Ford was known for wearing.
Last month when Ford resigned he concluded a four-decade career in coaching football. He coached at Celina for 24 years. He was athletic director and head coach for the last 10 years. He took over the position when coach G.A. Moore retired.
Under Ford's leadership the Bobcats won state titles in 2005 and 2007.
Also at last Friday's special meeting the board approved the hiring of Emily Webb to teach high school Spanish. She holds a Masters in education and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from Austin College in Sherman.
