1,438 graduate from McKinney high schools

Published: Wednesday, June 6, 2012 9:16 AM CDT
A total of 1,438 seniors from McKinney's three public high schools were presented with high school diplomas Friday at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano.

Graduates included 642 from McKinney Boyd, 435 from McKinney High School and 361 from McKinney North.

McKinney ISD Superintendent J.D. Kennedy certified that the students had met the proper requirements for graduation.

"This year's graduations were the most inspiring of all the graduations I've seen," Kennedy said following graduation ceremonies. "I was very proud of the students and their parents. Everyone was well behaved, and it was fun."

Each ceremony included speeches from the high school principal, valedictorian and salutatorian.

Students were congratulated for their successful completion of high school and encouraged to seek success in their future endeavors.

McKinney North Principal Jimmy Spann told North graduates, "The two exceptional characteristics of this class that stand out to me is your desire to be a servant leader and to excel academically. As a servant leader, you led our school in the Mary's Meals project that raised over $13,000, which will see a kitchen built in Malawi to feed many young children."

He added, "Just recently it was announced that your class was the recipient of over $2.6 million in scholarships to various colleges and universities. In fact, the total dollar amount offered to your class was more than $3.8 million. That's an incredible accomplishment and speaks volumes to the talent of your class."

The 2012 North valedictorian is Lauren Grace Allen, who plans to major in biomedical science at Texas A&M, and North's Salutatorian is Emily Ann Biggio, who plans to study nursing at Texas Christian University.

The 2012 Boyd valedictorian is Dillon Christopher Stull, who plans to attend Baylor University this fall. Boyd's salutatorian is Samuel Reid Terrill, who plans to major in biochemistry and genetics at Texas A&M University.

The 2012 valedictorian at McKinney High School is Justin Hicks, and the salutatorian is Jennifer Zotz. Both plan to attend Southern Methodist University.
