Three indicted for attempted murder: One suspect also receives additional charge for sexual assault of a child

Published: Friday, June 15, 2012 5:23 PM CDT
Indictments have been handed down for the three suspects in a November attempted murder in east Plano.

Vicky Renee Miller, 43, Dunkan Thomas Boyce, 18, and Francisco James Hurtado, 17, have each been charged with one count of attempted murder, while Miller also received an additional count of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

The alleged incident which led to the attempted murder charges occurred on Nov. 21, when police say the three attempted to kill Miller's fiancé, Paul Key, who told police that Miller had made up a story about him molesting her 10-year-old son. Documents allege that the assailants attempted to suffocate and strangle Key before hitting him in the head with a frying pan several times. Key was able to escape and contacted police from a nearby store.

The probable cause affidavit accompanying the arrest warrant states Miller, Boyce and Hurtado, who is Miller's son, tried to stage the scene to make it appear that Key attacked Miller. However, the evidence discovered by police led them to arrest the three for attempted murder.

According to police affidavits, Key and Miller met about four years ago at Lipstick's, a Dallas strip club where Miller danced. Key, 53, proposed to Miller less than 30 minutes after meeting her and, although she accepted, the two were never married. Key told police that when he decided to move on with his life, Miller and the two men attempted to kill him.

Since being arrested for attempted murder, Miller has also been charged and indicted for having a sexual relationship with a child. The mother of the child came forward in December 2011, shortly after Miller was arrested for attempted murder.

According to an arrest affidavit filed in April, Miller allegedly attempted to have sexual relations with a then 13-year-old boy who lived in her apartment complex during either 2006 or 2007. The documents state the boy resisted Miller's advances, but the two remained acquaintances for another three or four years with neither of them mentioning the incident again.

The documents also allege that Miller provided wine coolers and tequila to the boy when he was 10 years old, and that the boy and his friends would break into houses and steal items for Miller. The same affidavit also contains statements from the boy saying that Miller had told him that Key was worth millions of dollars and that she made numerous comments about killing him for his money.
