During his 20 seasons as Lewisville's track and field and cross country head coach, Ray White has seen plenty of success in and plenty of alterations to the area.

Now, White feels it is his time for a change.

White will be leaving his post to accept the head track and field coaching position at Barbers Hill, a Class 4A program about 40 miles east of Houston.

"There were a lot of things that went into the decision, but in the end I just felt like it was the right time to make a change," White said. "It was a good move for our family."

White was hired by Barbers Hill athletic director and head football coach Ronnie Gage. A Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor inductee, Gage led the Farmers to Class 5A State Football Titles in 1993 and 1996.

"We're good friends and having coach Gage as the athletic director played into the decision," White said. "That was a nice added bonus."

White will have the opportunity to coach with one of his former track and field athletes at Lewisville as former Farmer Trey Lewis will be an assistant. White will also serve as an assistant coach for the football team.

"There were just so many positives," he said. "Barbers Hill is a solid program both athletically and academically. I'll get started next school year and hope to raise the standards of the track and field program to even higher levels."

Barbers Hill is also a one-school town where White's son -- who is entering second grade next year -- will be at the same school as his father.

"It was a very tough decision," he said. "I've been coaching for 21 years and 20 of them were at Lewisville. It's like I'm leaving home. Lewisville is a great school in a great school district and I have no doubt whoever is hired as my replacement will do a great job. I'm proud of what we accomplished at Lewisville and I know the kids there are going to continue to do a great job."
