The Carrollton Police Department arrested two suspects Wednesday afternoon after a burglary at the Briarcrest Apartments in the 1300 block of MacArthur Drive.
At approximately 1 p.m., an area resident called 911 to report he witnessed the suspects forcibly enter the apartment and remove property. As officers arrived to the apartment complex, the suspects fled into nearby greenbelt and residential areas, according to a release. An extensive search of the area by patrol officers, detectives and specialty unit officers resulted in the apprehension of both suspects and the recovery of stolen property.
"The two suspects arrested in yesterday's burglary have been identified as 18 year-old Marlon Johnson of Garland and 18 year-old Mohammed Ahmed of Addison," said Jon Stovall, public information officer for the Carrollton Police Department. "Both [men] are being charged with burglary of a habitation and evading arrest."
"Several items of personal property have been recovered that were taken out of the residence during the burglary, Stovall said. "Most residential burglaries occur during the daytime hours when residents are gone." It is not believed that the suspects knew the victim and we are investigating to determine if they may have been responsible for any other burglaries.
The search continued for about 1 hour 20 minutes before both persons were located and taken into custody.
"We were able to locate and arrest these two due to the fact that officers from all areas of the police department joined in the search," Stovall said. "We had more than 25 officers searching for these burglars before they were located."
