The Town of Little Elm bid a warm welcome to RaceTrac's new prototype store, the RT6K, Thursday, which is located at the corner of FM 423 and Little Elm Parkway.

"The entire DFW RaceTrac team is proud of this new store and looking forward to rolling out new RT6Ks throughout North Texas," said Brad Svoboda, RaceTrac DFW operations manager, in a press release.

The RT6K store, which is the first of its kind in Texas, features a 6,000 square-foot facility with more than 4,000 shopping options. Nestled inside the brick and stone building is a 24-hour frozen yogurt area, Swirl Word, which boasts 10 flavors and 40 and more toppings. A walk-in beer cooler sits inside the c-store next to 24 frozen beverages with flavors such as cotton candy and horchata.

Near the back of the store are soda fountain machines, which also include 12 fresh-brewed teas, milkshake machines and several hot coffee options. The c-store also has free Wi-Fi, digital screens, indoor and outdoor seating and a toaster oven.

On the other side of the store, customers, or "guests" as RaceTrac calls them, will have the opportunity to purchase donuts that will be delivered daily from a local bakery or try one of Chef Bob Derian's breakfast and lunch creations.

"It's just game-changing," Derian said of the new design.

The store features "Chef Bob's" recipes such as the Meat Lover's Breakfast Burrito, on-the-go Chicken Parmesan or the taco dip. Derian picks the vendors to supply the ingredients for his recipes. For example, one burrito RaceTrac offers uses eight vendors to supply the ingredients.

"Coming to a c-store, it's not something you expect," Derian said. "Quality and freshness is really important to us."

From now on, RaceTrac will be building all future stores based on the RT6K model, which includes a bigger offering to its customers. RaceTrac's home office is in Georgia, where the first RT6K opened last January.

"Our customers said, 'hey, we like the traditional convenience store, but we want more of a market-type feel,'" said Terrica Oglesby, RaceTrac associate manager of Public Relations, said.

She said RaceTrac's mission is to make lives simpler and enjoyable by providing people with a one-stop shop in the roomy RT6K model.

"I think we'll do that with this store," Oglesby said.

Oglesby said Dallas is the largest market for RaceTrac with close to 100 stores in the area. The store in Little Elm brings at least 20 jobs to the town. The company plans to be involved locally and supportive of the community through organizations such as the Little Elm ISD and Little League teams.
