Williams-Sonoma at Stonebriar Centre Presents Free Technique Classes Every Saturday in July

The summer kitchen is filled with the fresh tastes of the season’s best fruits and vegetables, and the July schedule of Technique Classes at Stonebriar Centre’s Williams-Sonoma offers tips and techniques for making the most of these summer flavors. The schedule includes:


Saturday, June 30 at 9:30 a.m.: AMERICAN ALL-STARS. This class features ideas seen on the Cooking Channel show, Red, White and Grill with Williams-Sonoma. Participants learn how to create delicious side dishes and desserts to accompany a Fourth of July celebration. Recipes include Elizabeth Karmel’s grilled sauté of greens with smoked bacon and cast-iron skillet corn bread with strawberry butter, as well as Roger Mooking’s BBQ baked bean bruschetta with cilantro pesto on Texas toast. To complete the star-spangled menu, a recipe and tips for fresh fruit pie.

Saturday, July 7 at 9:30 a.m.: DIY CANNING – THE BASICS. Canning 101 covers the fundamentals of canning, from preparing foods for canning to using the water-bath method. Attendees learn how to make a mixed-fruit jam to enjoy in the cold of winter.

Saturday, July 14 at 9:30 a.m.: GROW, COOK, EAT – TOMATOES. The undisputed queen of the garden, tomatoes, are available in a rainbow of colors and are prized by gardeners and cooks alike. This class discusses heirloom tomatoes and popular home-grown tomatoes, along with myriad ways to use this summer favorite in time-honored dishes and creative new recipes. The class also covers the basics of selecting, storing, peeling and seeding tomatoes, plus easy ways to cut and serve them.

Saturday, July 21 at 9:30 a.m.: DIY CANNING – TOMATO SAUCE AND SALSA. While nothing tastes as good as a warm tomato just picked form the plant, nothing is as satisfying as opening a jar of tomato sauce made with tomatoes from the garden or the farmers’ market. Class teaches step-by-step how to prepare tomato sauce and a piquant salsa using fresh summer ingredients, and how to can both.

Saturday, July 28 at 9:30 a.m.: GROW, COOK, EAT – SUMMER FRUITS. Summer officially has arrived when farmers’ market stalls are brimming with fresh berries, with juicy stone fruits close behind. Attendees learn how to use the summer fruits to best advantage in everything from simple cobblers and salads to infused drinks and grilled fruits. Class discusses the basics of selecting and storing fruits, plus recipes will be shared.
