Cold stretch: FC Dallas winless streak hits 11 games

Published: Saturday, June 23, 2012 11:38 PM CDT
FRISCO -- FC Dallas did everything it needed to defensively during Saturday night's game against Chivas USA.

With goalkeeper Kevin Hartman facing only one shot during 90 mintues of play, Chivas wasn't much of a threat on offense for most of the night.

However, Dallas failed to capitalize on its chances and finished with a 0-0 draw in front of 13,846 fans at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco.

The tie extended an FC Dallas winless streak to 11 games, setting a new club record. The team had previously gone 10 straight games without a victory during a stretch that spanned July 2 to Sept. 10, 2005.

The loss dropped FC Dallas to 3-9-5 on the season and just 0-7-4 during its winless streak.

Saturday's loss was particularly tough for Dallas after finishing the game with 13 shots and limiting Chivas to a season-low two shots.

Chivas goalie Dan Kennedy ended the game with three key saves to keep his team in contention. Kennedy's biggest stop of the night came in the 65th minute when FC Dallas' Brek Shea broke free for a good look just 10 yards from the goal.

Kennedy denied the Shea shot near the bottom left corner of the net and finished the game with a shutout on a night when his offense had nothing going.

The closest Chivas came to scoring came in the 12th minute of the game when a Juan Agudelo shot bounced to Alejandro Moreno for a quick follow-up chance.

Hartman caught a break when the shot was deflected onto the cross-bar and out of bounds for a corner kick.

The contest was Shea's first since May 12 against Columbus. Last year's leading scorer for FC Dallas, Shea missed the last four games due to a combination of suspension and an injured left foot.

Shea's impact was certainly felt for an FC Dallas team that has struggled scoring goals this season. The Texan led all players with six shots in the game and should give a shot in the arm for FC Dallas in the coming weeks.

Despite Shea's return, Dallas was still missing four starters from its opening day starting 11 due to injury.

FC Dallas will now look to find the win column in a July 4 home match against Toronto FC. That game is set for 8 p.m. from FC Dallas Stadium.

Meanwhile, Chivas USA improved to 5-7-4 and into a tie for the fifth playoff spot in the Western Conference. Chivas now heads home for a Lamar Hunt US Open Cup quarterfinal matchup against the Charlotte Eagles on Tuesday at The Home Depot Center.
