Resident seeks national berth in Miss Teen event

Taylor Poorte, daughter of Glen and Sandra Poorte of The Colony, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Texas Teen Pageant to be held Monday at the Hotel Intercontinental in Addison.
Taylor, who will be a senior at The Colony High School this fall, is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. Other activities during her high school career include student council, science club, freshman cheerleader and junior varsity cheerleader.
Her community service includes volunteering to help at the annual Easter egg hunt at Five Star Park, painting with senior citizens in Lewisville, assisting at the food pantry at Calvary Christian Church and helping the cheer coach with the Griffin Middle School cheerleaders.
Her sponsors include North Texas Dermatology, Trinity Chiropractic Center, Loyal-T Hair Salon by Tia, Bridgit Kingsbery with Model My Home and the Barrios Family.
The National American Miss Texas Teen Pageant is for girls age 16 through 18. The winner will compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California. The National American Miss pageants are "dedicated to celebrating America's greatness and encouraging its future leaders," according to a release.
Each year, the pageant awards scholarships and prizes to recognize and assist in the development of young women nationwide. The pageant seeks to recognize the accomplishments of each girl while encouraging her to set goals for the future.
