Thousands flock to patriotic celebrations

Both Little Elm and Oak Point donned red, white and blue to celebrate America's 236th birthday with the July Jubilee and Freedom Fest.
Little Elm's eighth annual July Jubilee, held Wednesday, had roughly 12,000 people visit Little Elm Park to celebrate Independence Day. The evening event featured several vendors offering handmade baby gifts by Graceful Gracie of Denton, snow cones by Umbrella Shaved Ice of Allen, barbecue by Mylestone Original Ribs and more to the public. The Little Elm Police and Fire Departments passed out glow sticks, Frisbees and other goodies to children attending the event.
Several cooled off at the Swim Beach or set up lawn chairs to listen to the band 121 North perform. Children enjoyed bounce houses and the playground while begging their parents for more snow cones.
Oak Point Freedom Fest, held June 30, offered attendees a patriotic parade featuring the American Legion Post 182, Oak Point Department of Public Safety, decorated golf carts, a festive horse and more. Courtesy of Sonic and The Barbecue Joint, a free lunch of brisket sandwiches, hot dogs, pickles, chips and slushes was served.
Oak Grove United Methodist Church offered free water to those who stopped by their booth, and children got a chance to cool off at the inflatable water slide. Inside the Community Room, children were also able to try their hand at making foam airplanes, bead jewelry and coloring patriotic pictures.
Celebrators also had an opportunity to view classic cars up close at the car show during the event. The Gary Anderson Band provided entertainment during the celebration.
