A 36-year-old woman from Carrollton jumped to her death in Lewisville on Wednesday.

The woman, whose name has not been released, jumped off the southbound side of the Sam Raburn Tollway bridge onto the shoulder of Interstate 35E, according to Lewisville Police Capt. Kevin Deaver.

Deaver said police began receiving calls at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday from some motorists regarding a female in distress.

“Some of them thought her vehicle was disabled,” Deaver said. “Others thought she was trying to jump.”

Deaver said a state trooper was in the area and approached the woman, but she ran away from him before jumping off the bridge.

“He tried to assist her, but she jumped and fell about 70 feet,” Deaver said. “She was deceased at the scene.”

Deaver said the incident did not impact traffic very much, though the southbound ramp from State Highway 121 to I-35E was shut down briefly.
