If you are an artist in the Celina area it’s time to pick up your palette, sharpen your pencils and throw your pottery to join together to form Celina Arts.

Celina artist Carla de Boer is starting an artists’ group with the suggested name of Celina Arts.

She hopes to locate it in the store front on the square that most recently housed Denim Daze, next to the old Mayer’s Grocery Store. The group would be financed through memberships, art sales, donations, fundraisers, workshops and grants.

De Boer said Celina Arts could provide gallery space and a space for artists to create and sell their work.

“I feel like there are a lot of artists out there that do want to show their work and everybody loves art from the rancher to the biker,” she said.

Another function of the Celina Arts group is providing classes in various visual arts and getting involved with Celina Independent School District to do workshops or provide gallery space for young artists.

Celina artist Pat Hathcoat also came to the information meeting held at the Celina Chamber of Commerce new offices on Monday. Hathcoat paints china and is the president of the Porcelain Artists’ Guild in McKinney. She is also interested in getting the Celina artists’ group started and possibly teaching classes in china painting.

De Boer said all artists are welcome in the group no matter what their skill level is.

She paints watercolors and is a photographer and has had experience running an artists’ co-op in another city. She is also skilled in framing artwork.

She said an artists’ co-op would bring more people to the downtown area.

“It would be something for people to see when they come downtown,” she said. “The more there is to see, the more people will come downtown.”
