KING
George L. King of Fairview, Texas passed away July 9, 2012 at the age of 85.
He was born on February 15, 1927 as the youngest of seven children to William Jefferson King and Myrtle Julia Hunt King in Abilene, Texas.He served in the Merchant Marines and the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War.
George continued to work for Southwestern Bell as a communications engineer, assisting in the design and implementation of the cellular phone system. In 1983, George and Alene made their home in Fairview, Texas as George continued to provide his wisdom to AT&T. In 1994, George retired from AT&T, became a member and president of an Avion Travel Club.
Though he lost his love of 51 years in 2001 and survived prostate and lung cancer, George continued to find joy as he watched his family grow to include 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his sisters, Katharine Law of McKinney, Texas and Dorothy Pashman of Youngstown, New York; his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Cornerstone Baptist Church of Lucas, 2242 West Lucas Road, Lucas, Texas with Rev. Dennis George and Rev. Jim Everidge officiating. Interment will follow a brief graveside gathering at Ridgeview Memorial Park of Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 North Central Expressway, North Allen, Texas.
