Hardin named to Collin College board

Published: Wednesday, July 11, 2012 3:15 PM CDT
Andy Hardin has been named to fill the vacancy on the Collin College Board of Trustees, the college announced this week. Hardin will serve in Place 9 until May 2013 when a general election will determine who fills the vacancy for the remaining two years of the position formerly held by the late Brenda Willard Goodell. Ms. Goodell passed away Dec. 31, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer.

“It was a very tough decision because we had a number of very qualified applicants,” said Mac Hendricks, chair of the Board of Trustees. “The board felt that Andy’s professional acumen and his knowledge of and dedication to Collin College made him the best candidate to serve as our newest trustee.”

Hardin, of Frisco, has served as a businessman and civic leader for more than 30 years. He was employed at A.M. Scott Insurance Agency and McCall Insurance Agency, both in McKinney. Hardin was also publisher for Inside Collin County Business before serving as vice president of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. He is currently president of Collin County Bookkeeping, a company he founded that provides bookkeeping and payroll services for small and mid-sized businesses in the north Texas area.

He is a Texas Christian University graduate with a bachelor of business administration. Hardin has served on the city council, Chamber Board, Economic Development Commission and the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of McKinney.

“It’s certainly an honor to have been selected and I look forward to serving,” Hardin said. “This is going to give me an opportunity to once again be involved in the county. I’ve had a long history of service, but for the last few years I’ve been more involved in helping other people to get to serve. Now, I’ll have an opportunity to get to do that myself.”

Goodell was a Celina native who was appointed to the Collin College Board of Trustees in 2001. She was elected to her first full term in 2002, then re-elected for another six-year term in 2008. Goodell most recently led the board as its chairperson, becoming the first woman to hold the gavel as chair of the Collin College Board of Trustees.

“From what I’ve been able to tell, she (Goodell) was a wonderful public servant, and I look forward to continuing to serve as she did to the citizens of Collin County and to the students of the college,” Hardin said.

One of the school’s officers is confident Hardin will continue the institution’s legacy of strong leadership.

“Strong leadership and great vision have made Collin College what it is today,” noted District President Cary Israel. “As the college moves into its new strategic plan, Vision 2016, the leadership of the trustees will be increasingly important.

“Andy is a great fit for the board because of his strong connection to the community and belief in the importance of Collin College,” Israel added.

Collin College serves about 53,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs. Collin College is the only college in the county and is a partner to local business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
