Friends of Lisa Stone host fundraiser

Published: Wednesday, May 30, 2012 10:44 PM CDT
Lisa Stone has been missing since June 2010. Her friends have continued to search for her and information on her disappearance. They have held candlelight vigils, dedicated a park bench and even appeared on CBS’48 Hours to tell their story. The group is hosting a fundraiser at Rodeo City Music Hall, , to benefit the Cue Center for Missing Persons that will honor the second anniversary of Stone’s disappearance on June 3.

“We wanted to do something to honor Lisa so we came up with the idea to do a fundraiser for the Cue Center for Missing Persons,” said Tina Wiley Stringer, a high school friend of Stone. “This started out as a small idea and it has blossomed into what it is now.”

As part of the entertainment the group has booked former American Idol contestant and Rowlett native Jason Castro to headline the event. Castro was a finalist on Season No. 7 of the popular Fox television show. Miss Texas Kendall Morris will be the guest host of the event.

There will be other entertainment including Sonny Franks and Billy White, both Mesquite High School Class of 1977 alumni and friends of Stone. Stone also graduated from Mesquite High School in 1977.

“We are always trying to do things to raise awareness that Lisa Stone is missing. We want to keep this in the public eye and make people aware of Lisa and other missing persons,” Stringer said. “People don’t realize how often this stuff happens. It strikes all walks of life.”

The group of friends even took the Stone case to national television with an appearance on the CBS show 48 Hours to detail their story. The episode originally aired on May 7, 2011. Stringer said they were just informed that CBS will re-air the Stone episode on June 5, the second anniversary of Stone’s disappearance.

Stringer said she currently works as Texas state outreach coordinator for the CUE Center for Missing Persons. The CUE is a national non-profit organization that offers assistance to families of missing persons.

“It’s all nonprofit so all the funds have to come from donations,” Stringer said.

Tickets are regularly $25, but we are offering a $10 discount on each general admission ticket. There will also be a silent auction to add to the fundraising efforts.
