Recent Flower Mound graduate Cassie White signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play college softball next season at Louisiana-Lafayette.
The outfielder will join former Marcus softball player Sarah Draheim on the roster.
Last year as an outfielder at Flower Mound, White helped the Lady Jaguars reach the regional quarterfinal round of the Class 5A playoffs. She was an all-district performer twice and was one of 57 athletes in Class 5A to receive academic all-state honors from the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
"Cassie is another speedy left-handed slapper and outfielder," said Michael Lotief, Lafayette head coach. "She came to our camp this summer and worked extremely hard, picked up on things quickly and really fell in love with Cajun Country. She comes from an area where she faced top notch competition and her high school coach highly recommended her."
"She is another athlete who excels both in the classroom and on the field athletically."
Flower Mound head coach Mark Larriba said he ran into Lotief during a summer tournament and began speaking highly of White and the rest of the Lady Jaguars outfield. Lotief mentioned he needed some speed following an injury, saw White -- who had previously signed with Butler Junior College -- play during the summer and the rest is history.
With White's signing, all three members of Flower Mound's outfield, as well as former outfielder and converted catcher Emilee Burkhardt, will be playing in college. Burkhardt is attending Angelina State, with Christy Lisenby headed to Baylor and Katie St. Pierre signed with Houston.
