Injuries force Habern off the gridiron
Argyle Liberty Christian product and Oklahoma center Ben Habern -- who's family lineage goes back to Lewisville and Flower Mound -- has been forced to end his college football career early as a result of lingering back and neck injuries according to Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. Habern would have been entering his senior campaign and had started 30 games for the Sooners.
UIL steroid testing results
During that span, 3,311 tests were conducted and confirmed nine positive results and two protocol positives, which stem from a student-athlete violating the UIL steroid-testing protocol. One resulted from a student not reporting for testing and one was the result of a substituted specimen.
In addition, 217 schools were tested which included 3,087 boys across 11 sports and 224 girls over 10 sports. The sports with the most tests conducted were football (1,366) and volleyball (30) for boys and girls, respectively.
The testing spanned grade levels 9-12, with 1,045 senior student-athletes tested.
Basketball camp
The Young Stars Summer Break Basketball Camp will take place Aug. 13-16 at the Fred Herring Recreation Center in Lewisville. The camp will run Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The camp is for all youth between the ages of 8-12. Dribbling, shooting, passing and defensive skills will be taught. Prizes and awards will be given to top achievers and performers and free lunch is provided daily from Chick-fil-A.

Labor Day Rodeo returns
The City of Lewisville and the Lewisville Saddle Club will be hosting its annual Labor Day Rodeo Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the Lewisville Rodeo Grounds. The professional rodeo includes bareback bronco riding, saddle bronco riding, women's breakaway roping, tie down calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, women's barrel racing, junior barrel racing (12U), bull riding, a kids calf scramble (10U) and mutton busting (8U). Concession will be available. The rodeo starts at 8 p.m. nightly with gates opening at6 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults (12 and over) and $6 for children (5-11). Parking is $2 per vehicle.

Aug. 27 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. for timed events.
Aug. 27 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for junior barrels (214-534-8440).
Aug. 28 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for rough stock and team roping.
