Track and field athletes from across the state converged on Corpus Christi last week to close summer in style by taking part in the Texas Amateur Athletic Foundation's (TAAF) Summer Games of Texas, which took place July 26-29 at the Cabaniss Sports Complex. The meet featured several McKinney-area athletes, including gold-medal winners Emily Jondron and Trevor Walker.
Jondron, who lives in Lowry Crossing and attends school in Princeton, won gold in the 14-and-under girls discus with a throw of 96 feet-5 inches, beating her nearest competitor by more than four feet.
Walker won the 18-and-under boys 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:28.77. He also placed fourth in the 800 meter with a time of 1:58.29, missing a third-place finish by just .21 seconds to Galena Park runner Montieco Harris.
