City to help dispose of old hazardous waste

Published: Friday, June 1, 2012 3:50 PM CDT
It's that time of year again; time to dispose of any old hazardous household waste products around your home. From 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Southlake's Department of Public Safety will have the "Crud Cruiser" available at Carroll ISD's Dragon Stadium located at 1085 S. Kimball Avenue. Residents may drop off old paint cans, aerosol sprays and other hazardous household waste items.

The "Crud Cruiser" will operate on a "first come, first serve" basis meaning; once the unit is full, the environmental collection center will be closed. Please be patient, the capacity of the "Crud Cruiser" is limited. Residents should plan to arrive early and bring their driver's license or utility bill.

Residents who are unable to dispose of their household waste items at the CISD location will have another opportunity Sept. 8. At that time we will also be offering document shredding and electronics recycling.

The following items and products are accepted at the "Crud Cruiser" disposal event:

* Automotive fluids

* Batteries

* Cleaners & chemicals

* Cooking oil

* Lawn/garden/pool chemicals

* Light bulbs

* Medicines

* Paint & painting supplies

The following items are not accepted:

* Ammunition & Explosives

* Appliances & electronics

* Building Materials

* Bulk Trash & yard waste

* Butane/propane cylinders

* Medical waste

* Tires

* Asbestos/PCBs/Radioactive items

Residents with non-oil based paint (latex, water-based paint) should let it dry out and place it out for residential trash pick-up.
