USA Today and Rand McNally announced the winners of their "Best of the Road" competition on Tuesday, July 17. Frisco, one of the cities vying for the title of friendliest town, fell short, losing to Murray, Ky.
In a statement, Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Marla Roe congratulated Murray and thanked Frisco's residents for their efforts in the competition.
"The community stepped up in a big way in welcoming [competition judges] Jennifer Jordan and Bob Shatz, and we want to thank everyone for taking part in this great experience," Roe said.
Jordan praised Frisco's friendliness during her and Shatz's visit.
"I think we're discovering [the meaning of friendly] here that, as such a young community, friendship and being friendly means reaching out to your neighbors, making sure everyone's included, and [being involved in] the community," Jordan said on June 25.
Another Texas town, Gainesville, won the competition's most patriotic town award. Other winners include Delray Beach, Fla., which won the award for most fun town; Santa Fe, N.M., which won the town with the best food award; and Bardstown, Ky., which won the competition's award for most beautiful town.
