The Celina city council, the Main Street Advisory Board and the Historic Preservation Commission chose the new Main Street director in a special meeting on July 23.

Terri Wilson, the mayor of Krum, Texas has been hired as the full time executive director of the Main Street program.

More than 20 applicants applied for the position. Six made the short list. City Manager Mike Foreman appointed a committee of community stake holders to help pick the final candidate.

Historical Preservation Commission members Jane Willard and Jane Huddleston, Alfred Arias, president of both the Historical Preservation Commission and the Main Street board, Mayor Pro Tem and Celina Chamber of Commerce member Todd McCally, Vincent Ramos member of Cinco de Mayo and El Puente de Celina boards, Celina Planning Director Helen-Eve Liebman and City Manager Mike Foreman made up the committee that interviewed the final candidates and made a recommendation to the council, Main Street board and Historical Preservation Board.

Foreman said the voting was done by ballot. Wilson was everyone’s first choice.

The Main Street executive director will also work closely with the Historic Preservation Commission.

“Terri was clearly at the top of the candidates we interviewed,” Arias said. “When we decided the position has two roles, she clearly had the skills and passion to do both.”

Wilson will begin almost immediately. She plans to continue serving as mayor of Krum till January. She is in the final year of her third two-year term as mayor.

Before being elected as mayor she served a year on the Krum city council and also served on Krum’s economic development board.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and taught third grade math and science in the Krum school district. She has a Masters degree in educational administration from Tarleton University. She also has a Licensed Vocational Nursing degree from North Central Texas College.

Her first goal as Celina’s Main Street executive director is to complete the Ten-Point Criteria required by the Texas Historical Commission for Main Street programs throughout the state. The criteria show Main Street’s activity for the previous year.

She is also busy getting to know local business owners.

“It seems like a great little community. I’m very excited,” Wilson said.

She hopes to hold at least one event on the square a month. The next big event Main Street will have is Christmas in Celina.

“We’re very excited to have someone of her caliber in the community,” Arias said.
