For those who want to meet a friend for a morning latte or cappuccino in quiet, aesthetically-pleasing surroundings the TF Expresso Bar is now open to accommodate you.

The expresso bar opened unofficially July 30. It is in the basement of the new Turquoise Firefly Boutique in the upstairs of the building that was once the Presbyterian church in Celina at 501 West Walnut Street.

“Basically anything you can get at Starbuck’s you can get here,” owner Karl Immel said.

Latte, cappuccino, a variety of coffees and teas as well as juices are available. Customers can also choose from a variety of breakfast pastries, cookies and donuts. Eventually they want to add hot breakfast sandwiches to their menu.

“It’s a morning hang-out. Come for breakfast, come say hi,” TF food and beverage manager Mandy McKinnon said.

The space lends itself to coffee and conversation with comfortable, leather furniture waiting to be occupied. Stained glass windows from the old church have been for wall décor and the table tops.

The expresso bar will be open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the week. McKinnon wants moms to bring the kids by after school for an after-school snack.

“I love this place. I predict it will do well,” Celina resident and school board member Pam Peters said.

She and her friend, Celina resident Tracy Cash, were there at the TF Expresso Bar on the first morning sipping coffee.

Both said they loved the atmosphere.

Alcoholic beverages and food will be available in the evenings. Immel said no children will be allowed in the evenings. He wants the place to become a neighborhood hang-out.

“I want this to be a place where people can kick back and relax,” he said.

Soon he will have singers and musicians perform in the evenings at the expresso bar.

The upstairs of the old church is the Turquoise Firefly, run by owner Holly Immel.

She carries Old Gringo and Lane boots and Hudson jeans. Rachel Zoe clothing and Gypsy Soule t-shirts, jewelry and flipflops among the designer labels. There is also jewelry made by local artists.

The upstairs has been open for a few weeks. The Turquoise Firefly and TF Expresso Bar will hold a grand opening some time this fall.

The Immels, who live in Prosper, redid both the upstairs and downstairs for their business and even put in new sidewalks in front of the building.

They invite everyone to visit the Turquoise Firefly and the TF Expresso Bar.
