GISD graduates earn millions in scholarship money

After passing final exams, walking across the stage at graduation, and receiving diplomas, more than 3,800 Garland ISD students have finished their high school careers. Now, many Class of 2012 members will continue their education in colleges, universities, trade schools, and the military. Graduates were accepted into several outstanding educational institutions across Texas. Other schools of note include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, Emory University, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, George Washington University, and Pepperdine University.

Scholarship money earned by these GISD graduates reached into the millions with a tally of $43,993,167. Rowlett High School reported an impressive $17,062,597 haul by its seniors, the highest scholarship total from any GISD high school. The top two RHS scholarship awards were earned by Jehadu Abshiro ($175,076 to Southern Methodist University) and Glen Taylor ($149,440 to the University of Daytona).

Morgan Clark - $160,000 to the University of Miami

Tony Cleveland - $160,000 to the University of Miami

 

North Garland High School

Gabriel Esayas - $163,351 to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, The King’s College, and the University of Texas

Leah Serrano - $140,000 to Southern Methodist University

Sachse High School

Adrien Richburg - $204,000 to Baylor University

Tyler Holmes - $170,000 to the University of Kansas

South Garland High School

 

Elainy Lopez - $208,000 to the University of Denver

D’Montre Futral - $101,000 U.S. Marine GI Bill

Juan Guerrero - $101,000 U.S. Marine GI Bill
