Man executed in 1998 murder of Plano man
By Bill Conrad, bconrad@starlocalnews.com
The man sentenced to death for the 1998 murder of Plano stockbroker Frank Meziere was executed Wednesday night in Huntsville.
Yokamon Hearn, 33, is the 483rd person put to death in Texas since the institution of the death penalty in 1982. He is also the first to die using a single lethal drug, rather than a multi-drug cocktail. The shift to a single drug was announced last week by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice due to the scarcity of one of the drugs in the cocktail.
In March 1998, Meziere was carjacked by Hearn and three other people while washing his car in Dallas. Meziere, 23, was forced into his own vehicle and transported to south Dallas where he was shot in the head at least 10 times. Hearn, who was 19 at the time of the murder, was sentenced to death in 1998. Hearn's attorneys appealed his execution to the U.S. Supreme Court, but that appeal was turned down several hours before the execution.
