DA divisions to be together in county courthouse

All Collin County District Attorney's office divisions will soon be together in the same location, after having been in separate facilities for the past 11 years.
District Attorney Greg Willis announced last week that judges and employees in the DA's Misdemeanor Trial Division will be saying goodbye to its current location at the University Drive Courts Facility (UDCF) by the end of the month.
The courts and offices are being moved into the Collin County Courthouse at 2100 Bloomdale Rd. near U.S. Highway 75, where district courtrooms and other DA operations are already located.
The entire DA's office, as well as the district and county courts, were once housed at the old courthouse at 20 S. McDonald St. That building was demolished in 2001. The Misdemeanor Trial Division, county courts at law and county clerk offices then moved to the UDCF at 1800 Graves St. The DA's Felony Division, state district courts and district clerk offices moved to the Bloomdale Road building shortly after it opened.
No cases will be heard in the county courts at law during the last week of August while those courts and clerks are moved to the courthouse.
First Assistant District Attorney John Schomburger said the entire DA staff is looking forward to the reunion after having been separated from their counterparts for so long.
Willis said all divisions being at the same location means less confusion for everyone, including prospective jurors, witnesses and litigants.
He attributed the move to strategic planning by the Collin County Commissioners Court and said the move will benefit the entire county.
"A county courthouse is a uniquely American phenomenon," Willis said. "It's the one place our entire community comes together, each with different roles and the loftiest of purposes. Having our judges, prosecutors, lawyers and clerks under one roof again will restore a sense of identity to the Collin County legal community."
