Incoming college students or those seeking a new career should consider the stable arena of information technology.

Registration for information technology classes at Collin College is open through the first day of class Monday, Aug. 27.

The National Information Security and Geospatial Technologies Consortium (NISGTC) is seeking more students for its three-year, $20 million federal grant established last year. Collin College serves as the lead for the consortium that includes Bellevue College, Bunker Hill Community College, Del Mar College, Moraine Valley Community College, Rio Salado College and Salt Lake Community College.

The program offers services to individual who are seeking short-term training and job placement assistance in cybersecurity, geospatial technology, programming and network, and data communications.

The primary goal of this grant is to help Trade Adjustment Act workers, whose jobs have been moved out of the country, veterans, non-traditional and traditional students in obtaining employment in their chosen high-demand and high-wage IT career. These participants will have an opportunity to attain stackable academic certificates or degrees as well as industry certifications aligned with a career ladder of increasing job roles and wages.  These credentials will help to prepare graduates to successfully fill the many open positions in the IT industry.

Students can take advantage of state-of-the-art laboratories, mentor relationships with businesses, internships, private tutoring den, special advising, career coaches and new and updated curriculum.

Registration at Collin College is done through CougarWeb. Students can find a log-in button to CougarWeb at the college’s website or go directly to http://cougarweb.collin.edu.  Then go to the "Registration Tools" channel on the home tab. For help logging into the portal, call the Student Help Desk at 972.377.1777.  A username and password are required in order to register online.

Through CougarWeb, online registration is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week unless otherwise noted. Students can also view the latest version of the e-schedule outside of the portal at www.collin.edu/academics/class_schedule.html . However, they will not be able to register until they log into CougarWeb.
