Raulerson named preseason all-state
After an eventful year that saw Celina senior lineman Jake Raulerson commit to Texas and land in the top 60 recruits on the ESPN 150, the Bobcat has garnered much preseason buzz.
That includes a first team all-state nod from Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
10-5A football predictions
With the start of football practice, which began Monday, comes the start of football predictions.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine is at the forefront of those prognostications.
DCTF made its 10-5A rankings and has Allen hoisting a district crown for a seventh straight year. The Eagles, who feature the Preseason Defensive MVP in senior linebacker Nick Cobb, are trailed by Plano East, McKinney Boyd and Plano Senior. The Broncos have the district’s Preseason Offensive MVP in senior running back Bryan Driskell.
The publication does not have Plano West (fifth) or McKinney (sixth) making the playoffs.
Lovejoy freshman win state
While Lovejoy varsity football didn’t make 7-on-7 state, the Leopards weren’t entirely shut out.
They can thank the freshmen for that.
The contingent of Lovejoy incoming freshmen Jack Sendelbach, Kevin Davis, Connor Adkins, Aaron Fuller, Nick Parker, Griffin McCutcheon, Matt Van Smith, Dakota Michaels, Austin Van Waggoner, Jake Mayfield and Cooper Carter traveled to College Station last month and won the Primetime 7-on-7 State Championship.
The team, coached by Sean Sendelbach and Scott Davis, defeated Plano West (26-7), Lake Travis (47-7), Stephenville (34-28) and Marshall (49-30) in the prelim rounds.
Lovejoy then beat Austin Westlake (38-20) in the semis and Arlington Lamar (41-34) in the finals.

UIL steroid testing results
The UIL has released its annual Anabolic Steroid Testing Report for tests conducted between September 2011 and May 2012.
During that span, 3,311 tests were conducted and confirmed nine positive results and two protocol positives, which stem from a student-athlete violating the UIL steroid-testing protocol. One resulted from a student not reporting for testing and one was the result of a substituted specimen.
In addition, 217 schools were tested which included 3,087 boys across 11 sports and 224 girls over 10 sports. The sports with the most tests conducted were football (1,366) and volleyball (30) for boys and girls, respectively.
The testing spanned grade levels 9-12, with 1,045 senior student-athletes topping the scale.
Hendrix represents U.S. overseas
Allen alum, and Hendrix junior, Katie Coughran traveled to Prague this summer, playing basketball with the American International Sports Team in the Czech Republic capital.
Coughran’s team faced squads from Prague.
“It was interesting and fun to play with girls from a completely different culture,” Coughran said. “Even though there were a few differences in the (international) rules, it was nice to be doing something so familiar while we were overseas.
“It was a great practice for this coming season.”
Besides playing basketball, the American International Sports Team traveled to Munich, Rothenburg, Freiburg and Heidelberg in Germany as well as Saulzburg in Austria.
Owens signs with Seattle
Following a short-lived stint with the Allen Wranglers, Terrell Owens signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old, ex-Wrangler was signed for $925,000 – the NFL’s veteran minimum.
Owens previously served as a player and co-owner for the Wranglers in an IFL career that spanned eight games, during which the wide out recorded 35 catches for 420 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Wranglers released Owens in February, citing his unwillingness to play in a late-season road trip and missing an appearance at a children’s hospital.
Owens, entering his 16th NFL season, is second in league history in receiving yards (15,934), fourth in touchdowns (156) and sixth in receptions (1,078).
