Epstein earns starting spot at OSU
Evan Epstein, who played football his freshman and sophomore year at McKinney High, is now the starting center at Oklahoma State.
His journey has been a lengthy one.
Epstein, who worked out at McKinney High this summer, saw action in three games as a sophomore for the Cowboys and five last season.
His move up the depth chart was recently completed as Epstein was put on scholarship and will start at center for Oklahoma State, which opens its season Sept. 1 against Savannah State.
Driskell continues awards
Football season hasn't even started and already McKinney Boyd senior running back Bryan Driskell is being honored.
The latest came from Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine.
In the season preview edition, the Broncos running back is listed as first team preseason all-state. That stands to reason considering Driskell was Star Community Newspapers' All-Collin County Player of the Year last season and is the second-leading rusher back this season (2,079 yards) behind only San Antonio Madison's Marquis Warford.
Boyd has been picked to finish third in District 10-5A by DCTF.
Killman places 11th at Olympics
Mary Killman, who lists McKinney as her hometown, completed her Olympic run Tuesday.
Killman and partner Mariya Koroleva placed 11th in the women's duet synchronized swimming finals at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Having swam together for less than a year, Killman and Koroleva made Tuesday's finals by finishing top 12 in the prelims. The duo logged an 87.9 in last Sunday's technical program and an 88.27 in Monday's free program to sit in 10th.
Killman and Koroleva were steady in the finals.
The duo logged a 43.78 technical merit score and 43.99 on artistic impression for a combined 87.77. That mark was added to their original tech score for a total of 175.67 and 11th place finish.
The gold medal was won by Russia's Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina.

Lovejoy atop first 4A poll
Though the Lovejoy volleyball team is moving up to Class 4A, expectations are staying the same.
At least according to the pollsters as the Lady Leopards are the state's No. 1-ranked Class 4A team in the pre-season poll from the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Amarillo, Georgetown, Canyon Randall and Richmond Foster round out the top five.
Lovejoy has won the last four Class 3A State Championships, the first program in that classification to accomplish such a feat.
UIL steroid testing results
The UIL has released its annual Anabolic Steroid Testing Report for tests conducted between September 2011 and May 2012.
During that span, 3,311 tests were conducted and confirmed nine positive results and two protocol positives, which stem from a student-athlete violating the UIL steroid-testing protocol. One resulted from a student not reporting for testing and one was the result of a substituted specimen.
In addition, 217 schools were tested which included 3,087 boys across 11 sports and 224 girls over 10 sports. The sports with the most tests conducted were football (1,366) and volleyball (30) for boys and girls, respectively.
The testing spanned grade levels 9-12, with 1,045 senior student-athletes topping the scale.
Modano to be enshrined in Dallas
Mike Modano's journey to be enshrined into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame will be a short one.
The Allen Americans minority owner, and former Dallas Stars standout, will be inducted into the Class of 2012 on the ice at the Plaza of the Americas in Dallas.
Modano, Lou Lamoriello and Ed Olczyk are being inducted this year.
The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame is in Eveleth, Minn., but inductions have rotated across cities for several years.
In addition to being a staple of the Minnesota North Stars and then Dallas Stars franchise, Modano is the NHL's American-born leader in goals, points, playoff points and games played.
Owens signs with Seattle
Following a short-lived stint with the Allen Wranglers, Terrell Owens signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old, ex-Wrangler was signed for $925,000 -- the NFL's veteran minimum.
Owens previously served as a player and co-owner for the Wranglers in an IFL career that spanned eight games, during which the wide out recorded 35 catches for 420 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Wranglers released Owens in February, citing his unwillingness to play in a late-season road trip and missing an appearance at a children's hospital.
Owens, entering his 16th NFL season, is second in league history in receiving yards (15,934), fourth in touchdowns (156) and sixth in receptions (1,078).
