Council awards bid for FM 2499 beautification construction project
From staff reports
At Monday’s Highland Village City Council meeting, the council approved the resolution awarding the FM 2499 beautification construction project to Denali Land Development for an amount not to exceed $979,910.
The project includes design services, installation and construction of landscaping for medians and roadway intersection lighting on FM 2499 from FM 407 north to the Highland Village city limits. Funding for the project comes from Denton County Precinct 3 bond allocations and from TxDOT’s Green Ribbon Program, a grant awarded to the City by TxDOT to improve air quality and beautify roadways in Texas. A pre-construction meeting will take place this week and construction is anticipated to begin in September.
During the city manager’s report, the HVTV Update informed residents of the upcoming Highland Village Lions Club Balloon Festival which will take place this weekend.
The City is currently in Phase 2 water restrictions which prohibit landscape watering on Monday and Friday and between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. the rest of the days of the week. HVTV update also informed citizens of the need to protect themselves from mosquitoes by following the 4 D’s – Drain standing water, dress in long sleeves and long pants when outside, avoid being outside at dawn and dusk and use a bug spray with DEET.
Finally, the Highland Village Fire Department is participating in the 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb to raise funds for the 9-11 Fund and to memorialize the public safety personnel who lost their lives on Sept. 11. The HVFD team consists of six members who each need $110 in sponsorship from the community in order to participate.
The council also discussed the events to commemorate the city’s 50th anniversary. The celebration will begin on Sept. 28 with a community picnic and a concert in the park at Copperas Branch Park.
The free event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature music by Eleven Hundred Springs. The community is invited to bring their blankets, chairs, picnic baskets and gather to celebrate Highland Village.
