Another convenience store has joined the Little Elm community, but this time it's on the west side of town. Chevron held its grand opening on Aug. 10, offering giveaways from vendors and discounted fuel.
"On behalf of the Town of Little Elm, we want to welcome you. We expect the best for you," Interim Town Manager Doug Peach said.
The new store, located at 500 West Eldorado Parkway, provides those visiting Lewisville Lake a bigger selection of food, drinks and fuel on their way out to the lake. It offers a spacious fuel pump area that can accommodate boats on a trailer, fresh-made food options, fruit and breakfast items, a walk-in beer cooler and in the future, a fishing line that will include bait and other supplies.
The store also offers household items like laundry detergent for those who drop off their children at the nearby schools on Lobo Lane and do not want to make a big trip to a grocery store.
"It's convenience that doesn't cost a lot," Thanawalla said.
Construction on the shopping center the convenience store is located in has been in the works since 2002.
"We've been waiting to do this location since 2002. I was just waiting for the right time," Thanawalla said.
Thanawalla said they used "state-of-the-art" construction materials in the design of the building such as using LED lights in the fuel pump canopy and energy control programmed for sections and the time of day.
"We try to conserve energy," Thanawalla said.
At the grand opening, visitors also enjoyed a special of 50 cent hamburgers and hotdogs. Thanawalla said the food service counter makes its orders fresh; even the burgers are not kept frozen.
A joint Church's Chicken and Dickeys Barbecue Pit is expected to be opening nearby later this year. The building will host both businesses with a shared dining room.
"The city has helped us get to where we are at," Thanawalla said.
As of now, the convenience store is open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily. In the future, Thanawalla said it is possible for the store to be open 24 hours.
"I just want to continue supporting this town because I love it," Thanawalla said. "I've lived here for 11 years. This is home."
