Rowlett medical center adds to its smartphone app

Published: Friday, August 10, 2012 5:19 PM CDT
After a successful launch of its mobile app for the smartphones last year, Lake Pointe Medical Center recently announced new features to further connect new and expectant mothers with health-related information.

“We originally launched the mobile app in May 2011. It was a very convenient way to connect with our patients,” said Bobby Montgomery, Lake Pointe Medical Center marketing manager. “In the electronic age the mobile app gives people the power of health care at their fingertips. There is a lot of information that can be pulled from there.”

The app’s initial launch included the ability to see the current ER wait times, map and directions to Lake Pointe facilities, a first aid guide, a health library, a physician finder and InQuickER.

Montgomery said there has been a steady increase in the number of downloads of the app since its inception.

“We have been pleased to provide our patients with access to health-related information through our mobile app,” said J. Eric Evans, chief executive officer of the Lake Pointe Health Network. “The newest features, maternity tracker and baby’s first year, complement the services we already offer through our app by providing new and expectant parents with a one-stop shop for important information they need to prepare for pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. We are pleased to offer such comprehensive health resources to new and expectant parents in the communities we have the privilege to serve.”

Maternity tracker offers the ability for expectant mothers to track appointment and make notes, the ability to display a countdown timer based on their due date, the ability to add journal entries, a contraction timer, a listing of labor techniques and delivery methods, information about body changes, a list containing baby name ideas and tips for both mother and father for the duration of the pregnancy.

“There are lots of things in there. It’s a nice supplement to help put the mother’s mind at ease,” Montgomery said. “The maternity tracker is a really nice addition to the mobile app.”

The other new feature, baby’s first year, offers an appointment tracker that includes the ability to take notes, lullaby music, a baby weight and height tracker, immunization reminders, journal entries, a baby feeding timer, information on childproofing the home, information on solid foods and a breastfeeding guide.

“This portion of the app really helps with the continuing education we offer for new parents,” Montgomery said.

He added that although the mobile app would never replace the information or support offered by the personnel at the medical center it is a nice supplement to what they offer.

“We still patient education in house. This is just a nice supplement to it. It is an added feature to help with getting people additional info,” Montgomery said.
