Poteet has no problem with Frisco Liberty in season opener
By DEVIN HASSON, dhasson@starlocalnews.com
Since narrowly missing the playoffs on a tiebreaker last season, Poteet has been itching to get back on the field.
The Pirates finally got their chance on Friday and their campaign to return to the playoffs started in fine fashion in a 35-14 thumping of Frisco Liberty at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.
Behind three touchdowns and 267 total yards from quarterback Tanner Ramsey, Poteet opened a 35-0 lead through three quarters before Liberty was able to tack on a couple of late touchdowns with the outcome already sealed.
Ramsey bulled in from two yards out for a score early in the second quarter and then hooked up with Buck Roges on a 68-yard scoring strike to give them a 21-0 advantage at halftime.
Poteet put the game away in the third quarter, as Ramsey threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Verkedric Vaughns and Anthony Jenkins scored on a 3-yard run to push the lead to 35-0.
