The Main Street board of directors met Monday, June 4 to determine what to do with a non-functioning copy machine and decide whether or not to participate in the video project “Today in America.”

City Manager Mike Foreman chaired the meeting in the absence of Main Street board president Alfed Arias. City council member Carmen Roberts was in line to chair the meeting but she declined.

After consulting the Main Street bylaws to determine how many board members constituted a quorum, the meeting was called to order.

Foreman proposed Main Street participate in a project to make a video about Celina that would run on the CNN channel 19 times and the Discovery channel once. The production cost for the city of Celina for the video would be nearly $20,000.

Foreman proposed that Main Street contribute about $4,000 to the project along with other city groups including the Economic Development Corporation.

Main Street board members Bill Webber, who is also a member of the city council, and Buddy Minett did not agree that Main Street should contribute $4,000.

“I'm not sure this has the same value to Main Street as it does to the EDC. We need to make sure we can spend money on this,” Minett said.

The board approved Minett's motion to contribute 10 percent of the public component of the video project not to exceed $2,000.

Main Street board members also voted to put the copy machine used by Main Street and other city departments into the upcoming auction of surplus city office equipment.

Foreman gave an update on the hiring process for a new Main Street director. He said a committee has been formed to choose candidates. Interviewing will start next week for the position which will now be a full time position.

He said the Main Street golf tournament in May had been very successful although the amount of funds raised for Main Street had not been determined yet.

Former Main Street board member Jane Huddleston expressed concern regarding research that she and longtime Celina resident Jane Willard had done on the downtown buildings and past mayors be preserved at the museum. Carmen Roberts suggested she get the files after the meeting.

When the meeting adjourned Huddleston and board member Angela Royal retrieved the research files.

The Main Street program's mission statement is "to embrace the treasures of our past and protect them for the benefit and enjoyment for future generations."

The program focuses on the downtown area and funded by city and state funds and proceeds from the annual Main Street golf tournament.
