Networking is an important part of advancing in any profession.

And pro hockey is no different.

Proof lies in the Allen Americans’ latest signing as last Thursday the club inked 23-year-old forward Anthony Maiani to a contract for the 2012-13 season.

Maiani may be new to Allen, but he knows many people in the franchise having played alongside new teammate Nino Musitelli and under Americans head coach Steve Martinson.

“I’ve talked with current and former players, including my good friend Nino, about the Americans organization and heard nothing but great things about playing in Allen,” Maiani said. “I’m told the fans are loyal and passionate about the team and the community is a great place to live.”

Maiani played with the Sioux City Musketeers in the United States Hockey League for two seasons before beginning his college career at the University of Denver in 2007-08. The Shelby Township, Mich. native plied his trade there for the next four seasons, accumulating 126 points (34 goals, 92 assists) in 158 games.

Maiani started his professional career from there.

Spending the 2011-12 in the East Coast Hockey League, Maiani played for the South Carolina Stingrays and Chicago Express. At the latter stop, Maiani scored 18 points (4 goals, 14 assists) while playing for Martinson prior to him taking the helm in Allen.

Maiani is the 14th player the Americans have signed for the upcoming season as he joins the ranks of Musitelli, Chris Whitley, Trevor and Tyler Ludwig, Darryl Bootland, Jason Deitsch, Brian McMillin, Jarret Lukin, Mike Berube, Brad Gallant, Chris Doyle, James Schaafsma and Kip Brennan.

“I can’t wait to get back on the ice again after a great summer,” Maiani said.

The Americans, entering their fourth season, will begin training camp in early October. The regular season commences Oct. 20 with Allen hosting the Arizona Sundogs that night and again the next afternoon. The first road trip for the Americans, who are seeking their first CHL Championship, is Oct. 26 and 27 against the Texas Brahmas.
