Second WNV death reported in Plano: Total number of cases in Plano remains at 28
From Staff Reports
A second Plano resident has died after becoming infected with the West Nile virus.
The city was notified of the death on Wednesday by the Collin County Health Department. The death is the result of West Nile neuroinvasive disease, the more debilitating form of illness.
To date, the total number of cases reported in Plano for 2012 is 28. West Nile virus-related illnesses have affected 1 out of 9,643 Plano residents over a three month period. Frequency of new cases reported has become more sporadic, the city said.
A West Nile virus informational hotline has been set up to answer the most commonly asked questions. The hotline can be reached at 972-941-7180
Additional information and updates to the map for neighborhoods treated may be found on the health department's website, plano.gov/Health/Pages/WNV.aspx.
