Celina Elementary School Principal Starla Martin said there were a few mothers on the first day of school on August 27 who were teary-eyed, but no students.

A few of those teary-eyed moms made their way to the fourth annual Boohoo-Woohoo Breakfast held at C Town after school opening.

This year the breakfast was sponsored by Celina Newcomers, the Parent Teacher Association and the Celina Independent School District.

Mayor Jim Lewis and City Manager Mike Foreman gave words of welcome and answered questions from parents who attended the breakfast.

One mother said that there should be baby swings at Old Celina Park. Foreman agreed that that was a good idea.

“We would like you to get involved with your child's education,” CISD Superintendent Donny O'Dell told the group of parents.

“Kids whose parents are involved we never have any problems with,” he said. “Your children want you to be involved. We're glad to have you in Celina.”

Kera and Joel Stevens attended the breakfast even though their two children are not old enough to attend school yet. They moved to Celina from Sherman. Kera said they wanted to be closer to Dallas but not be in Dallas. They looked around and chose to move to Celina.

Sandy Carter, founder of Celina Newcomers organized the first Boohoo-Woohoo breakfast three years ago so parents would have a place to come to learn more about Celina after the start of the first day of school whether they were teary -eyed or turning cartwheels because their children were starting school.

Celina Newcomers meets the fourth Thursday of every month at 10 a.m. at Texas Star Bank. Everyone is welcome to attend. The group is not just for newcomers to Celina.
