Town manager’s future to be decided Saturday

" Some people are commenting on websites about racial motives behind this planned termination. I don't believe for a minute that it has anything to do with racial prejudice, so let's try to refrain from injecting that type of offensive and dangerous innuendo. However, asking why Mr. Jefferson must be fired at a cost of $700,000 to Flower Mound taxpayers is fair game. If the Town Council feels he's in violation of his contract because of his refusal to implement their directives, couldn't he be fired without paying the remainder of his contract? After all, refusing to do one's job isn't generally rewarded with a 700K golden parachute, which by the way, must be paid in one year, rather than in three.

Mr. Jefferson certainly knows that he serves at the pleasure of the Council, hence, they can terminate his contract if he doesn't perform his duties according to the Town Charter. That begs the question; if he's not doing his job, why are they paying him all that money instead of just firing him for refusal to perform? "
