Dallas Symphony Orchestra announces DSO on the GO

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra's will soon begin its inaugural season of the concert series DSO on the GO, presented by The Ebby Halliday Companies.


The 2012-2013 season features the DSO playing classical and pops concerts in eight cities and neighborhoods across North Texas. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 Interstate 35 Frontage Road. To purchase tickets call 940-369-7802.

DSO on the GO will include 17 performances featuring the most familiar classical pieces and popular light classics, with concerto soloists who are principal musicians in the DSO.

The program includes Dallas Symphony Orchestra conductor Alasdair Neale and cellist Christopher Adkins. Pieces to be played include Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture, Saint Saëns' Cello Concerto No. 1 and Dvo?ák's Symphony No. 9 from the New World.

A native of Denton soloist Adkins holds degrees from the University of North Texas and Yale University. Adkins joined the Dallas Symphony in 1987 and previously served with the Milwaukee, New Haven and Denver symphonies. Adkins also studied with former Dallas Symphony Principal Cello Lev Aronson. In addition, Adkins is a member of the Dallas String Quartet and has performed with the ensemble throughout the U.S. and Europe. He also serves as adjunct associate professor of music at the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Adkins is married to Dallas Symphony violinist Alexandra Adkins.

Neale is music director of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, music director of the Marin Symphony and principal guest conductor of The San Francisco Conservatory of Music. From 1989 to 2001, Neale served as associate conductor of the San Francisco Symphony and music director of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. During that time he conducted both orchestras in hundreds of critically acclaimed concerts both here and abroad. He also maintains an active guest conducting schedule, both nationally and internationally, including engagements with: the New York Philharmonic, Saint Louis Symphony, Houston Symphony, Columbus Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic, Honolulu Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Forth Worth Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Omaha Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Nashville Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Alabama Symphony and the Florida Orchestra.
